Designing School Action Plans for the Climate

Supporting Bracknell Forest Schools First Climate Change Conference

Design Nature CIC was excited to take part in  Bracknell Forest Councils first student climate change conference, which took place in May 2022, attended by over 70 students from across the borough’s secondary schools. We supported in facilitating between sessions and running an interactive and practical workshop, alongside creating lasting resources and a summary infographic from the day.

The students, many of which were part of schools’ eco or sustainability groups, enjoyed an exciting day at Garth Hill College, including being joined by wildlife expert and conservationist, Chris Packham

The day started with a presentation from a local Greenpeace volunteer, Sumreen Sheikh, who set the scene for students, providing them with insight on the current climate situation, their history to current Greenpeace campaigns and outlining the variety of roles that young people can play in helping to tackle the climate crisis.

After a short inspirational talk from Chris on their role as Change Agents, this then set the scene for Design Nature’s 2-hour workshop to support the student groups in designing and developing their own School Sustainability Action Plans.

The schools came up with and shared so many great ideas that it inspired the council to further support them in taking them forward by committing £500 to each school and visits to help them develop them. What a great outcome for all!

Chris Packham then closed the event with an inspirational keynote.

Huge thanks to Bracknell Forest Council for making this great event happen and to all those involved. We’re excited to see where your action plans take you.
